Engineering Design Services LLC sponsored a senior design team at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi. The 2020 team focused on the design, engineering and construction of a remotely operated robot for the inspection and lubrication of guy wires (the wires used to hold up cell towers and flare stacks).

The robot was designed to attached to multiple sizes of wires, inspect the wires via a hall-effect based sensor, and then apply a lubricant to the wire to prevent corrosion. The goal of the robot was to make guy wire lubrication and inspection safer by reducing the number of people and the amount of elevated work required to perform the work scope.
