Thermal Screw Capital Installation
Project Overview
Engineering Design Services provided engineering support for the installation of a new thermal screw conveyor at a plant in Arkansas. The project focused on integrating new equipment into an existing facility while ensuring compatibility with surrounding structures and systems. Advanced field data capture and modeling techniques were used to support accurate design development and installation planning.
Result & Impact
• Achieved seamless integration of new thermal screw conveyor into existing plant infrastructure
• Improved installation accuracy through detailed 3D scanning and modeling
• Reduced risk of field conflicts and rework during installation
• Ensured structural adequacy of existing platforms for new equipment loads
• Delivered accurate design documentation supporting efficient construction and commissioning
• Enhanced overall reliability and constructability of the system
Engineering Tools & Technologies
• 3D laser scanning (LiDAR)
• 3D modeling and spatial analysis
• Structural analysis of existing steel platforms
• General arrangement (GA) drawing development
• Piping design and layout engineering
• P&ID development
• Equipment integration engineering
Scope
• Perform site laser scanning to capture existing facility conditions
• Develop 3D models of new thermal screw conveyor and associated equipment
• Evaluate equipment layout and spatial integration with existing structures
• Conduct structural analysis of existing platform and substructures
• Develop general arrangement (GA) drawings for equipment installation
• Produce detailed piping drawings for system integration
• Develop Process and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID)
• Support capital installation planning and execution
Solution
Engineering Design Services utilized high-resolution laser scanning to create accurate 3D models of the existing facility and proposed equipment. These models were used to validate equipment placement and ensure safe integration with existing infrastructure. Structural analysis was performed on supporting platforms to confirm suitability for the new loads. Based on this analysis, EDS developed GA drawings, piping layouts, and P&IDs to guide installation and ensure seamless system integration.
